Cranes I

In Zivile Rudzikaite-Matuzonieneā€™s Cranes I , silence feels architectural. A cool, lunar light lifts from water and gathers along the tall, patient bodies of the birds. They stand in a near-monochrome dusk, necks describing slow calligraphy, beaks tuned to a horizon that has not yet committed to dawn. The air is pale and mineral, the palette restrained, as if the painter has removed everything unnecessary so we can hear the first thought arrive. The forms are slender and measured, stacked like musical staves.
