Hi Lora! Could you give a brief introduction about yourself and your work for those who may not be familiar with you?
I’m Lora, a 24-year-old Bulgarian rug artist currently based in the UK. I create unique 3D cozy rugs that are fully handmade and designed by me.
Rug making is not a typical hobby or career path. What inspired your journey into the world of rug making and pursuing it as a career?
The internal need to create and bring my art to life brought me to dive into this dream career. I have always wanted to decorate my home with unique furniture, and a plant rug was one of the main ideas I had. It was really hard for me to find the perfect one, so I decided to design it myself.
At that point, I was working a full-time job and freelancing in digital art. Even so, I loved the design so much that I decided to invest in all the tools needed to try to make it myself. I shared the finished piece on my page, and it went viral, receiving a lot of love and completely changing my life. I'm the kind of person who gets uninterested very easily but the complex process of rug making is keeping me intrigued because of its different stages. I have always been very creative and art-driven, and I really can’t see myself doing anything else now.
Could you share how your rug creation process looks and from where your inspiration derives?
The rug creation is such a complex and difficult process for which time and skill are essential. There are many different stages, from designing and tufting to shaving. My inspiration comes at certain moments. It could be 12 PM or even 2 AM! I love surrounding myself with things that inspire me daily, such as plants, nature, and everything ocean related. I love matching different colours and thinking of a way to combine them into a beautiful piece.

What elements do you consider essential when creating a rug?
Most importantly, I would say originality. As an artist, I love expressing myself and creating pieces and designs that are one of a kind and never seen before. Next is high quality. For the past two years, I made sure that the quality gets better and better with each rug. Another essential part is enjoying the process and loving what you do.
Your rugs incorporate unique, colorful and fun designs, how would you decorate them in the home interior?
Every home has its own soul and style. I personally love seeing my artwork in my clients’ book nooks or plant rooms, on floors, or even walls. Mostly places where you just want to enjoy yourself and spend some time relaxing and surrounding yourself with things you love.
Mushroom Rug of Labeled Masterpieces
What are your current 3 most favorite rug projects that you have created?
My favourite work and most liked by my plant enthusiasts' audience is my famous monstera rug, with cozy green shapes. Secondly, the mushroom rug, which comes in greens, purples, or blues depending on every client’s personality and likes. Another piece is the ocean rug, which recently went viral, showing off calming blue-toned waves.
Finally, what rug designs or techniques you are looking forward to trying out this year?
I have so many plans about creating some new ocean-related designs as well as plant varieties. I will enjoy working on my skills and performance and get my work to an even higher level of quality!
